*PLEASE VOTE FOR RENOITES AS "BEST LOCAL PODCAST" IN THE RENO NEWS & REVIEW BEST OF NORTHERN NEVADA*
HERE'S THE LINK
When we think of local government, often the people that come to mind are the mayor and city council, but we shouldn't forget that the city of Reno is but a part of the much larger Washoe County, whose jurisdiction overlaps and intersects with Reno, and extends as far north as the very top of the state.
On this week's episode of Renoites, host Conor McQuivey speaks with Washoe County's Manager, Eric Brown. Manger Brown was appointed to the position by the Washoe County Commission in 2019. Conor and Manager Brown discuss the role of the county government broadly and the county manager specifically, the process of creating the CARES campus and working with Reno and Sparks to address the needs of homeless populations in the area, ideas for addressing housing affordability in the region, efforts to include the voices of rural communities, Manager Brown's background working in the telecommunications and consumer goods industries before coming to public service, how his experiences as a student athlete shape his way of working, and much much more!

Renoites Shorts - Nevada Museum of Art’s ”Ghost Army”
Thursday Jun 15, 2023
Thursday Jun 15, 2023
The Nevada Museum of Art is currently showing an exhibition created by the World War 2 Museum in New Orleans called "Ghost Army: The Combat Con Artists of World War 2." The exhibit tells of the special unit in the war that was tasked with deception. Using inflatable fake tanks, pre-recorded radio chatter, and other illusions, they misled the German army about where troops were stationed. Several members of the unit went on to careers in art, including the painter Ellsworth Kelly and the fashion designer Bill Blass.
To tell us about the exhibit and other current works at the Nevada Museum of Art, we welcomed NMA's Marketing and Communication Director Rebecca Eckland to the show.
This episode of Renoites is the first in a series of shorter episodes, designed so that you can listen and learn without having to dedicate a full hour to the topic. Most "Renoites Shorts" episodes will only be 10-20 minutes long.
If you have suggestions for episodes or topics, please let us know! Email conor@renoites.com and be sure to follow on Instagram at http://instagram.com/renoites as well!

Will Durham on the Nevada Neon Project
Tuesday Jun 13, 2023
Tuesday Jun 13, 2023
A few years ago, Nevada's state element was declared to be neon, to reflect the importance of neon lights in the identity of our cities both big and small. The effort to make this happen was spearheaded by local neon preservationist and director of the Nevada Neon Project, Will Durham.
Will has been saving neon signs from destruction throughout the state for many years, and has amassed a collection he hopes to turn into a world-class museum here in Reno.
On this episode of Renoites, Conor and Will discuss the importance of neon to Nevada's identity and history, the technical craft of creating neon art and advertising, the process of lobbying the Nevada legislature to designate neon as the state element (which passed unanimously in both houses), the opportunities he has had to display pieces from the collection, and his vision for a neon museum in Northern Nevada.

A Local Podcast for Reno, Sparks, and Northern Nevada
THIS IS THE LINK WITH ALL THE THINGS
Hi there! My name is Conor and I host this podcast. It's called Renoites and it's an interview show based in Reno, Nevada. My goal for this show is to interview a wide variety of interesting and important people from Northern Nevada. I don't really use this website much because most people listen to podcasts on podcasts apps rather than on web pages like this one. However, it's important to have a web page for search engine optimization purposes! And just for general availability of the show. You can listen here on this page, or on Spotify or Apple Podcasts or Amazon or basically anywhere that podcasts exists.
Do you have suggestions for guests or topics I should have on the podcast? That's great! Please send me an email to conor@renoites.com and get in touch. Also, you should definitely follow me on Instagram at http://www.instagram.com/renoites because I post there with much much more up to date content than you'll ever find on this website. Thanks for checking out the show, I hope you enjoy it!
